Plan 4 sq ft of coop floor space per chicken and 8–10 sq ft of run. Bigger is always better — cramped birds get sick and peck each other.
An A-frame (two sloped panels) is the easiest first build. A box coop (4 walls + roof + door) gives more weather protection.
Ventilation (no drafts), a roosting bar (2x4 with the flat side up), nesting boxes (1 per 3–4 hens), and predator-proof latches.
